The world of networking has been undergoing a series of changes in recent years. The inclusion and constant expansion of cloud services, SD-WAN architectures, user decentralization, and remote work are just a few examples. While these platforms represent the next step, it’s undeniable that visibility and support have become a challenge for the teams managing these infrastructures , especially given their diversification.
Traditionally, monitoring, through SNMP and ICMP servers, was responsible for providing information about the behavior of the infrastructure , but how can this be applied to users working remotely from their homes? When a cloud service goes down, how can the point of failure be identified: the cloud, the provider, the server?
ThousandEyes, in partnership with ITS InfoCom, revises the conventional monitoring model, expands it for next-generation architectures, and explores in depth the behavior not only of the network but also of the service . To do this, it uses a series of distributed tools that allow for different approaches:
Enterprise Network Metrics and Behavior
Enterprise agents execute tests (scheduled or immediate) to gather information about network performance. Synthetic tests are used to provide data on service behavior and visibility into the traffic path. These agents can be installed on various devices, including Raspberry Pi, virtualization systems, ISR4K routers, and Catalyst 9K switches as a containerized application, among others.

End-user visibility
Through an application installed on the end user’s device called the ” endpoint agent ,” behavioral metrics are collected on on-demand services, all from the user’s perspective . This allows for the identification of potential failures that could impact remote work and that would not be detectable with other tools. This application is available for Windows and macOS .
Information about cloud services
ThousandEyes has deployed a series of cloud agents across various platforms and locations worldwide , which can be used to perform synthetic testing outside of our network. This allows us to validate whether any service is experiencing issues globally , verify current performance with different providers (both cloud and ISP) , and compare service metrics.

All the information gathered by the agents is sent to a single cloud platform (SaaS), allowing access from anywhere and eliminating the need to install an additional centralized server. On the platform, you can optimize how the data is displayed and prioritize information that is important to the business , and even generate customized alerts based on your needs, all with an adaptable reporting system.
